First things first: If you saw my original post about the NJ shore, then you’ll need to read the extended version over at The Blind Hem. Katy just launched The Blind Hem this month, so be sure you check out all the great editorials and fashion-related memoirs that are up right now!
The holiday season was a crazy one for me - I feel like I’ve been on the go since Thanksgiving. As 2011 ended I was in a car, somewhere in the mountains of Arizona  and California, trying to determine which time zone I was in. We were on our way back from the southeast, where we spent several days for Christmas. All that traveling left plenty of time for me to think about my year. 2011 was…
-The year I got more into cooking than ever before.  In the winter I tried mustard eggs for heavy-breakfast-only days, but got more into vegan-izing all my favorite foods as the year went on: including fake bacon and this amazing tomato corn pie that I think about at least once a week. I also had my fair share of delicious SoCal takeout in 2011. I can’t wait to see what 2012 brings to the table, literally!
-My second year living in Los Angeles. Every day I learn and explore something new about this wild wild west, and all 365 days of 2011 are no exception. I explored awesome mid-century architecture (including a building shaped like a tamale), played tour guide to out-of-town visitors (2), saw a creepy old mansion (2), visited the beach on the hottest, most crowded day of the year, and even did my best to “see” the city before I was born, including the now-demolished PINK mansion of Jayne Mansfield.
-Filled with travel. I’m so lucky to have the chances I did this year! I spent a day in Palm Springs, traveled to Vegas for work, went to Disneyland again for the second time in two years, and (!!!) got to see Europe for the first time ever - Germany - 1 & 2, The Alps, and Amsterdam.
-A time for me to slow down with planned/professional photographs. Instead I picked up a new hobby - jewelry making! The launch of my shop went so much better than I ever expected, and I know 2012 is going to be a great year for Motherland too! Thanks to everyone who supported me last year, and stay tuned!
-Just enough time away from the 90s to reminisce about being an awkward teen in platforms and JNCOS: I scanned a dELiA*s catalog from 1999.
-A time to stop wearing so many new, mass-produced articles of clothing! This year I got more into vintage and handmade goods. I ogled accessories (1 & 2), went to my first vintage clothing show, and became (admittedly) a bit of a groupie for The Loved One (omfg wait til you all see the skirt I just bought at their store in Pasadena this weekend).
Best (and belated) wishes for a happy and healthy 2012
